El chavo Del Ocho
El Chavo (El Chavo del Ocho in spanish) is a Mexican television show that has gained a great amount of popularity in Latin America as well as in Spain and other countries. It focuses around the adventures and tribulations of the title character, an orphan, played by the series' creator, Roberto Gómez Bolaños, and other inhabitants of a fictional apartments building, or as called in Mexico, vecindad.
The shows traces back to June 20, 1971, where it appeared as a sketch in the "Chespirito" show, broadcast on Mexico's channel 8. In 1973, El Chavo moved to Televisa and became a weekly half-hour series. The show was cancelled in 1980, but shorts were still produced in Chespirito from that year until 1992. At its peak of popularity during the mid-1970s, El Chavo, having 350 million viewers worldwide, was the most-watched show in Mexican television. The frequent occurrence of Mexican idiomatic expressions makes El Chavo very hard to translate into other languages. An exception is the Portuguese language which is very similar to Spanish. Thus the Portuguese-spoken version of El Chavo is still very popular in Brazil, where the series is known as Chaves and is still broadcast by SBT

Why do satyrical cartoons always show the Mexican chasing after the blonde/white girl? What's up with that? Is that how white America sees mexicans? And they cant use examples like Lorena Herrera and the fact that half of our supermodels/actresses are white because that's the media talking. Mexicans like real women, with big butts and a nice ****. Skin let alone hair color means nothing. |
| It's largely just a stereotype, although I have seen some Mexicans that are new to this country come on to women quite strongly. (again, not all, in fact nowhere near the majority, but some) I think that's largely because the media and tv shows that are popular here tend to portray many American women as being "easy". (just look at shows like desperate housewives and sex and the city) I guess some Mexicans and men in other ethnicities see these programs and think that the behavior of the women in these shows is the norm. That's my best guess on the subject. Again, I'm not saying all or even most Mexicans are like this, that's just my best guess. |

What was the mexican version of scooby doo called? So basically my dad was flipping through the channels and he said he came across this cartoon that was the mexican version of scooby doo. Instead of Scooby they had this bulldog, and they had a hippie type Shaggy figure, a sexy girl Daphne person, the jock-looking Fred type, and the braniac Velma type.
However~ we don't know any names or anything like that. :( We'd really like to know what it's called so we can watch it. Thanks for your help. |

Illegal street soccer Mexican cartoon? There used to be a tv show in Mexico in the form of animated cartoons, it was about teenagers playing illegal street soccer, now, I'm not 100% sure the street soccer was illegal, but they were caught by the cops at one point. Anyone willing to help out finding the title of this cartoon, it's killing me. |
